Scania’s Next-Generation Service Market Solutions: Cloud Transformation, IoT & Regulatory Compliance

Background

At Fastdev we have had multiple collaborations with Scania across different areas and departments. In this article we would like to highlight a particular case where we helped the service market department to achieve their critical goals. Fastdev played an important role in the development of a new platform for maintenance and diagnostics for Scania products, which was crucial for the company’s worldwide operations, supporting the latest legal requirements and the new generation of products.

Challenge

Our specialists came in when the department was on a journey to the new generation of service market solutions for maintenance and diagnostics. The idea was to replace legacy desktop applications with a modern cloud-based system, with user-friendly web interfaces, SaaS services, IoT capabilities, integrations with multiple data sources and systems across different departments, and many more functions. The team needed extra resources with strong competence in full-stack development and in cloud technologies.

At the same time there was a big challenge for the whole company to support upcoming changes in regulations, mainly UNECE R155 (Cybersecurity Management System) and R156 (Software update and Software Update Management System). The products and the backend systems had to be adapted in many ways to ensure legal compliance, with no exception for service market solutions. A lot in this area was unclear then, and there was an enormous amount of refinement work ahead, before the team could even start with the implementation. And there was a hard deadline.

Our approach

Fastdev contributed in both of these areas, starting with improving technical solutions, both on architectural level and extending functionality. We made valuable contributions in many important parts of the system, among other things the IoT communication part, cloud infrastructure etc, and were there to make sure that the system would be ready for the global launch.

Later on, in collaboration with different departments across Scania, Fastdev delivered in refinement and architecture design to enable support of the new regulations and the new generation of products. After that, leading the implementation of the functionality in the service market solutions.

Results

Our work had a global impact for Scania. We helped to achieve crucial goals for the company and set a solid foundation for future development of service market solutions.

Fastdev has demonstrated high technical expertise, strong delivery capability, and a dedicated work ethic. They have upheld their commitments and delivered high-quality results, both in general and within our specific area of Scania expertise.”
